STAMFORD, Conn. As Stamford's Smith House Health Care Center revitalizes its not-for-profit partner, the Smith House Foundation, it will open up opportunities for Fairfield County residents and beyond, Executive Director Robert Mislow says.
"The mission of the Foundation is to assist the Smith House staff in fulfilling their responsibility to serve all those they care for," Mislow said. "It works to achieve its goals by organizing events and instituting programs that provide financial assistance; foster community awareness, education and involvement; and enhance the working and living environment at The Smith House."
The foundation is now helping the 128-bed facility to offer four types of inpatient services: short-term rehabilitation, long-term residential care, a secured Dementia care unit and End of Life care as well as an on-site Outpatient Therapy Center, he said.
Individuals in the business community are now invited to make tax-deductible contributions to the foundation to fund programming to benefit the facility. In addition, appointments to the foundation's Board of Directors are currently being considered to obtain guidance for its long-range strategic plan.
The facility is also evolving in what it offers to its patients and residents. In addition to an attentive and knowledgeable nursing, APRN, and physician staff, the Smith House provides individualized physical, occupational and speech therapy services to enhance the patient and resident focused model of care. Therapeutic recreation also offers a variety of programs held in the in the indoor lounges, music room, courtyard, garden and outdoor walking trails.
Applications for potential patients and residents are available through the Intake and Admission Department. The facility accommodations consist of 68 private rooms and 30 semi-private resident rooms, all with self-controlled central air conditioning.
We really offer a broad range of services here, with so much so near to offer the community, we look to the philanthropic endeavors of the Smith House Foundation to assist in our outreach, Mislow said.
