Shoppers Head To Stamford Mall For iPhone 5

STAMFORD, Conn. — The Stamford Town Center was buzzing early Friday morning as people from all over the area headed to the Apple Store to get in line in hopes of buying an iPhone 5.

Eric Pankowski of Stamford, thought about heading down to the mall at 5 a.m. to make sure he got one of the newest devices, but after talking to his wife decided against it and went after dropping his son off at school.

“It’s more than buying a phone, it’s becoming part of a community,” Pankowski said of his desire to get the iPhone 5 Friday, and the feeling Apple has created with all of its devices.

“I have to have it now; I don’t want to wait,” Paul Smith of Norwalk said. He added he has made his way down to the Stamford Town Center for all of the new iPhones because he likes Apple and knows each product will be better than the last.

While the Apple Store drew hundreds of people, the Verizon and AT&T outlets at the mall also were packed with people looking to purchase the newest smartphone. All three locations opened at 8 a.m. Friday to accommodate customers, instead of 10 a.m. like the other stores in the mall.

“The turnout was really strong,” Meredith Keeler, general manager of the Stamford Town Center, said “It is a very joyous moment.”

According to Apple’s website, its newest phone is thinner, lighter, offers a faster chip and has a larger display than its predecessor, the iPhone 4S.
