STAMFORD, Conn. The Deloitte accounting firm plans to add 200 to 500 jobs at its offices in Stamford and other Connecticut locations within the next six years.
In addition to creating jobs, the company's expansion plans will retain 1,153 existing positions in Stamford, Wilton and Hartford. Deloitte's plans were announced Wednesday by Gov. Dannel Malloy at a news conference at the company's Stamford office.
The jobs will range from entry level on up, said Steve Gallucci, managing partner of the Stamford office. He expects most of the jobs to remain in Fairfield County.
About 80 percent of the current positions in Connecticut are split between Stamford and Wilton, Gallucci said, and he expects that percentage to remain about the same.
The expansion of Deloittes business in the state is a victory, not only in creating jobs but over other states as well, Malloy said. The accounting firm looked at New York and New Jersey as other potential suitors, he said.
Deloitte will receive between $9 million and $14.5 million over the next six years from the state as part of the First Five program. The assistance will be based on the companys hiring and retention rate. In addition to paying salaries, the money will be used to train future employees, Gallucci said.
The company would receive $9 million if it retains its current 1,153 jobs and adds 200 before Dec. 31, 2013, a statement said. It would receive an additional $2.5 million if it retained those 1,353 jobs and created another 150 by Dec. 31, 2018, or $5.5 million if it added 300 positions by the same date, the statement said.
The First Five program was created in 2011 by Malloy to attract businesses to the state, keep businesses in the state and help businesses create jobs in the state, the states website said. According to the governor, it has created 22,500 jobs so far.
