Avelo Airlines will begin flying from Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP) in Islip, New York, the company said in a news release on Tuesday, Mar. 11. The carrier will begin service to three destinations in the late spring.
Twice-weekly flights will be offered on Thursdays and Sundays. Avelo will fly to Lakeland, Florida, along with two North Carolina destinations: Concord-Padgett Regional Airport (USA) near Charlotte and Wilmington International Airport (ILM).
This will be the fifth airline with flights at the Ronkonkoma airport. ISP also has flights with Breeze Airways, Frontier Airlines, JetBlue, and Southwest Airlines.
Avelo's flights to Charlotte-Concord will begin on Thursday, May 22. Service to Lakeland and Wilmington will start on Thursday, June 12.
ISP was one of three new airports announced by Avelo, joining Grand Rapids, Michigan, and a popular Caribbean vacation spot.
"We continue to inspire travel by growing our network at our newest bases," said Avelo CEO Andrew Levy. "We're adding three new destinations, including our fourth international location – Nassau, Bahamas. These 13 new routes offer our customers even more choices, making it easier and more affordable than ever for our customers to get where they want to go."
Introductory rates start at $59 for Charlotte-Concord and Wilmington, and $69 for Lakeland. The discounts apply for bookings made by Monday, Mar. 17.
Shortly after launching in 2021, Avelo created one of its bases across the sound at Tweed-New Haven Airport. The budget airline will officially open its eighth base at Wilmington's airport in April.
Avelo flies to 56 cities across 23 states, along with three existing international destinations in the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and Mexico.
