J Restaurant | Bar, located in Hartford at 297 Washington St., announced in a social media post on Monday, Jan. 29 that it has started planning its upcoming closure.

According to the owner, the property was sold to LAZ Parking as of Thursday, Jan. 25. However, the owner still holds a one-year lease on the property and has not yet determined an official closing date.

"We have numerous options to consider, and are still in the planning stages of what will make the most sense for the future," the owner wrote in their social media post.

Although the eatery is now on borrowed time, the owner urged customers to keep enjoying the restaurant while it remains open.

"We would like to thank all of you for the concern that you have shared with regards to us leaving, but we are still here so let's make the best of the time we have," the owner wrote, adding, "As soon as things transpire, we will be sure and make another announcement."

The news sparked an outpouring of bittersweet comments from past patrons.

"We are heartbroken," commented Lauren C. of Rocky Hill, who also added, "We certainly hope that you will find a new home and we will definitely follow you there."

"Sad news to see a fabulous and beautiful restaurant become a parking lot. You will be missed," commented Ellen F.

Despite the eatery's story coming to a close, the owner still expressed hope for what would come next.

"We will now turn the page and see what the future holds," they wrote.
