The 122nd District includes portions of the towns of Shelton, Stratford and Trumbull. McGorty was first elected in a special election in the summer of 2014, and was subsequently elected to a full term that November.
“It is a great honor to receive this continued support from all three of these great communities,” McGorty said. “I am deeply honored to receive this nomination. These are very difficult times at the State Capitol, and I take the responsibilities of a state representative very seriously. With taxes at an all-time high and continuing massive budget deficits, it is clear the one-party rule of Democrats in Hartford has damaged our economy and prevented Connecticut from achieving the economic strength and leadership it ought to have. I will continue to work to bring common sense to Hartford and change our state’s direction.”
McGorty, a Realtor with William Raveis, said he wants to return to Hartford to continue his efforts to make Connecticut affordable for graduates to live and find work here, and for seniors who have worked their whole lives in the state to retire here.
McGorty was nominated by Jim Capra, with a second by Steve Moorse in the convention chaired by Benjamin Proto. The convention included delegates from each town in the 122nd District proportional to the population of the town represented by it — nine from Shelton, two from Stratford and one from Trumbull.
McGorty currently serves on the legislature’s Judiciary, Appropriations and Environment committees. He lives in Shelton with his wife, Noreen, an alderman representing the Huntington section, and their two children, Bennie and Siobhan.
