The two men, who are 51 and 49, were in a crosswalk near 899 Hope St., and crossing in an easterly direction toward the Springdale train station when the accident occurred at 8 p.m., Blanc said.
They stopped in the southbound lane because a speeding small SUV heading northbound caught their attention, he said.
But they didn't see the southbound 2003 GMC Sierra pickup truck driven by Michael Pasquino, 57, of Stamford, that struck them as they stood in the southbound lane, he said.
Both men were thrown to the ground and were still on the ground when officers arrived, police said. They were taken to the hospital with undetermined injuries. A Polish-speaking speaking police officer assisted in translating for the two men, Blanc said.
Pasquino was issued two tickets for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
