SHELTON, Conn. — A Waterbury woman was arrested Tuesday after she was spotted swiping packages of holiday gifts left by a UPS delivery driver at Aspetuck Village homes, Shelton police said.

When officers arrived at the scene, the woman had left, but witnesses gave a description of her car and the license plate number, police said.

About 45 minutes after the original call, officers spotted the vehicle traveling north on Route 8. Officers stopped the car near Exit 16, noticed several packages in plain view and found 12 in all, police said.

Ten of the packages were from five different Shelton addresses, with two more from Waterbury, police said.

They also found drug paraphernalia in the car, police said.

The driver, Andrea Guliuzza, 33, of Waterbury, was charged with five counts of sixth-degree larceny and possession of drug paraphernalia. She held on $5,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned in Derby Superior Court on Dec. 9, police said.

Shelton Police offered several tips for keeping packages safe during the holiday season and beyond:

  • Request delivery to the store itself and pick up the item there.
  • Have the package delivered to your work address or to the courier's pickup station rather than a home.
  • Schedule delivery for a day you know you or a relative or friend will be home.
  • Require a signature upon receipt for deliveries.
