Shelton police arrested Walter Gonzalez, 44, on two active warrants. He was charged with 12 counts of theft of a firearm, two counts of third-degree burglary and one count each of first-degree larceny and third-degree criminal mischief, police said.
The first burglary occurred on Lady Slipper Drive, where jewelry and a television were reported stolen, police said. The second incident took place on Isinglass Road, where a large safe containing 12 firearms and more than $100,000 in jewelry was taken, police said.
Shelton detectives recovered one of the firearms and linked it to Gonzalez, according to the report. Police searched his Bridgeport home and more stolen items, including some of the firearms, were found, police said.
Police said Gonzalez was responsible for the two Shelton burglaries, as well as others in surrounding communities.
He was held on $450,000 bond and was scheduled to be arraigned in Derby Superior Court on Thursday.
