A wanted man in Connecticut is in police custody after allegedly threatening his girlfriend with an unloaded handgun and threatening to kidnap her.

Officers from the Milford Police Department took custody of West Haven resident Darwin Martinez, 31, at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 11, in regards to an active warrant that was issued for his arrest.

According to police, on Friday, Feb. 8, Martinez allegedly threatened a woman he was in a relationship with a handgun while in the parking lot of Gulf Beach.

Police said that the woman stated that while she was with Martinez, he repeatedly pulled the trigger on an unloaded handgun while pointing it at her. While threatening her with the weapon, Martinez allegedly told his victim that he could kidnap her. The woman was eventually brought home, but police said that during the domestic incident, she did not know if the handgun was loaded or not.

Martinez was arrested on Monday and charged with threatening, breach of peace, reckless endangerment and carrying a pistol without a permit. He is currently being held in lieu of $50,000 bond. No return court date has been announced.
