Echo Hose Hook & Ladder responded to the accident, which was reported just before 6 p.m. on the northbound side of Route 8 just before Exit 12.
Route 8 was temporarily shut down while an injured person was moved from the accident scene, but the roadway reopened within about an hour.
Motorists experienced large delays in the area. The road was closed between Exits 11 and 12. Traffic congestion was reported for 3 miles between Exits 8 and 12, the Connecticut Department of Transportation said.
