A 35-year-old motorist from Fairfield has been charged with DUI after crossing the double-yellow line in Greenwich, according to police.

Greenwich Police say they were patrolling the area of Mill Street between South Water Street and Mead Avenue when a vehicle was observed crossing over the painted double-yellow line on Mill Street on Thursday, July 11 around 3 a.m.

A traffic stop was initiated, and the driver was identified as David Aguirre-Salazar, 35, of Fairfield, according to police.

During interviewing, police say Aguirre-Salazar showed clear signs of impairment. He was asked to perform a series of standard field sobriety tests, which police say he did not pass.

Aguirre-Salazar was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Operation of an unregistered motor vehicle
  • Illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs
  • Failure to drive in proper lane

Aguirre-Salazar was released after posting $500 bond and is scheduled to appear at Stamford Superior Court on Thursday, July 25.
