Elderly Man Identified Who Died In Mobile Home Fire In Shelton

SHELTON, Conn. — The man who died in a fire that gutted his mobile home Friday evening in Shelton has been identified, police said.

The victim was 75-year-old Richard Kowalsky, Shelton police Detective Richard Bango said in a statement Saturday, 

The Shelton Police and Fire Departments responded to 35 Hemlock Drive, which is in the Fairchild trailer park, for a fully engulfed structure fire at a mobile home. The park is off Bridgeport Avenue.

"First responders that arrived on scene received reports that there was possibly a person in the trailer at the time of the fire," Bango said. "After the fire was suppressed, it was confirmed that 75-year-old Richard Kowalsky was in the trailer at the time and died of his injuries."

No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Shelton Police Department, Shelton Fire Marshal’s Office and the Connecticut Fire Marshal’s Office.

Firefighters responded from all four of Shelton’s volunteer fire companies.
