The crash occurred on Route 8 north near Exit 24 in Beacon Falls at about 3 p.m. Friday, state police said.
Alex Malave, 42, who has addresses in Danbury and Hartford, was driving in the left lane with a 19-month-old onboard. His car veered and hit a Subaru Legacy in the right lane, causing the car to strike the guardrail, state police said.
The Subaru veered toward the shoulder, dragging the guardrail across Route 8, while Malave's car spun toward the shoulder, hit the guardrail and rolled over into the median, police said.
The baby, who state police said was not properly secured in the safety seat, was ejected, state police said.
Both drivers and the baby were taken to Waterbury Hospital with minor injuries, state police said.
Malave was found at fault in the accident and charged with reckless driving, failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, misuse of plate, failure to have insurance, operating an unregistered vehicle, failure to have a child in restraint seat, risk of injury to a minor and reckless endangerment.
He was held on $25,000 bond for an appearance in Derby Superior Court on Nov. 17.
The Department of Children and Families was notified of the crash.
