Joshua Z. Tarzia, 24, of Norwalk, was charged with reckless endangerment, engaging police in pursuit, reckless driving, interfering with an officer, operating without insurance, and driving an unregistered vehicle, Connecticut State Police said.

Troopers attempted to stop a blue BMW just before 10 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, in Norwalk for reckless driving and a missing rear registration plate. Instead of pulling over, the driver sped up, hitting triple digits in an apparent attempt to flee, authorities said.

For safety reasons, troopers chose not to pursue directly but tracked the vehicle from a distance as it exited the highway and continued onto side roads in Fairfield. Officers eventually surrounded the vehicle and brought it to a stop, officials confirmed.

Tarzia was arrested without incident and later released after posting a $5,000 bond, police said.
