Shelton Woman Files $10M Suit Against Driver In Crash That Killed Husband

SHELTON, Conn. — A Shelton woman has filed a $10 million lawsuit against the driver of the other car in a head-on crash that killed her husband in July, according to the Connecticut Post. 

The lawsuit was filed in Milford Superior Court by Jill Kwochka says her husband, John Kwochka, died as a result of negligence and carelessness of Amanda Cashmore of Cheshire, according to the Post.

Kwochka died July 14 in the car crash in Bethany. He was 43. He was born in Bridgeport and had been a Shelton resident since 1985. He graduated from Emmett O'Brien Technical School and attended The Baran Institute of Technology. He was employed by Business Electronics of Wallingford.

He loved to write and had a novel published, "Sacrifice Your Love," and was working on a second novel, according to his obituary. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter and his parents. 

Police said Kwochka was driving west on Cheshire Road in Bethany at about 5 p.m. July 14 when an eastbound pickup truck driven by Cashmore, 21, crossed the double yellow line and slammed into Kwochka’s car head on.

Kwochka was pronounced dead at the scene, and Cashmore suffered only minor injuries, the Post said.
