Matthew and Michelle Seagull told NBC News that the woman charged in his death, Carol Cardillo, 53, violated their trust and are horrified that she would be so lazy she would use a drug to put their baby to sleep, said NBC News.
On March 22, Fairfield police officers responded to 63 Edgewood Road to investigate the report of an unresponsive infant. The baby, Adam, was transported to St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, where he was pronounced dead.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy, listing the cause of death as acute diphenhydramine intoxication and ruled his death a homicide, police said
Cardillo, who had operated an unlicensed daycare in her home for about 11 years, initially told officers she had given Adam a bottle around noon on March 22 and then put him down for a nap in a play crib, has been charged with manslaughter, reckless endangerment and risk of injury to a minor. She is currently free on $250,000 bond.
Adam's parents, who say he was just beginning to show his true personality, hope that bringing awareness to his death, will help stop other babies from being harmed, said NBC News.
