Car Crash Snarls Traffic On Route 8 From Merritt Parkway To Shelton

SHELTON, Conn. — Lengthy delays were reported on northbound Route 8 after a crash Wednesday afternoon in Shelton, the Connecticut Department of Transportation reported.

A two-car accident south of Exit 12 for Old Stratford Road had narrowed the highway to just one lane after the 3:30 p.m. crash, DOT said.

A 6.7-mile traffic backup was reported at about 3:55 p.m., from Exit 9 for the Merritt Parkway in Trumbull up to Exit 14 for Route 110 in Shelton, DOT said.

Traffic jams were reportedly continuing as the evening commute kicked off on a rainy Wednesday afternoon.
