“They think there’s a common bond between people and food,” said manager Kim Osborne.
It must resonate with customers because Common Bond will spend this weekend celebrating its second anniversary as a popular go-to spot for all natural, organic foods and supplies in Huntington Center in Shelton.
The Elliotts, who have owned sister store Thyme and Season in Hamden for about two decades, looked for a second location for a long time, Osborne said. They thought Huntington was a perfect match for their style of store.
Common Bond is a full-service facility, offering a juice bar, a deli and hot foods and soups prepared in house each day, Osborne said.
The refrigerator section features fresh local produce, and the shop offers iced and hot coffee as well as kombucha on tap.
Shelves are filled with vitamins and supplements, pet foods and health and beauty aids, as well as bulk herbs, flour, rice, nuts, granola and trail mixes. The store also offers a variety of alternatives for those living a vegan life or dealing with specific food allergies.
Each Tuesday, a naturopathic doctor sets up shop, advising customers on a range of health issues, Osborne said.
The shop’s owners and Osborne are also foster parents to Octavia, Hermione and Vega, three dogs from Guiding Eyes for the Blind.
On both Saturday and Sunday, vendors will present live demonstrations and offer samples of everything from waffles to ice cream throughout the day. Shoppers can wind down with a free chair massage, and there will be a customer raffle, Osborne said.
Common Bond Market, 40 Huntington St., will be celebrating from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
The shop is open from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays.
