The Shelton Farmers’ Market Association is inviting the community to enjoy the monthly “First Saturdays” winter farmers market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Shelton Farmers Market building, 100 Canal St.
“It gets bigger and bigger every single year,” said Jim Calkins, owner of Seasonal Sweets & Catering, from behind his table inside the market on a recent Saturday.
All of the vendors in the market make their own products as it is a “producer’s only” farmers market. Vendors can’t purchase products and resell them.
The market's Facebook page promises that Saturday's offerings will include potatoes, sweet potatoes, winter squash, carrots, turnips and beets, all from winter storage, as well as lettuce, asian greens, celery, radishes and scallions from the greenhouses. Goat meat, veal, all kinds of beef, and pork will be available along with fresh cheeses and wine. Smoked beef brisket sandwiches and pulled pork will be for sale and live music will entertain all.
Vendors expected at the April 2 market include Beltane Farm with goat’s milk cheeses; Blue Slope Farm with cheeses, veal, and goat meat; East Village Farm with eggs, wool products, and soaps; Hall’s Farm with certified organic eggs and produce; Jones Family Farm and Winery with wines and jams; Liquid Lunch with fresh sandwiches; Seasonal Sweets and Catering with breakfast sandwiches, spices, teas, and nut- and gluten-free treats; Stone Gardens Farm with vegetables, beef, pork, and chicken; and Stone Gardens Cut Flowers with fresh flower bouquets.
