FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- The forecast for Independence Day had originally looked bleak before showing improvement during the week. But the latest forecast from the National Weather Service, released Friday afternoon, says rain is now likely on Saturday.

There is a 60 percent chance of rain on Independence Day, with precipitation most likely after 1 p.m. Up to a quarter of an inch of rain is possible until 8 p.m., making for the possibility that the wet weather could spoil July 4 outdoor events and celebrations.

Saturday's high temperature will be around 70 degrees.

The rest of the Independence Day evening should be mainly cloudy with a low around 58 degrees.

The skies will brighten Sunday with sunny skies and a high near 80.
