Round Of Strong Storms With Gusty Winds, Possible Hail Will Sweep Through Area
Get set for a pre-Memorial Day weekend splash. A round of strong, isolated storms with gusty winds will sweep through the area later in the afternoon and into the evening on Thursday, May 23. The main time frame for storm activity will be from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Some of the storms could be locally severe, the National Weather Service said in a Hazardous Weather Statement issued early Thursday morning. Sunday's sparkling skies and pleasant conditions will prove to be the calm before a new round of storms with soaking rain and gusty winds at the beginning of the workweek. The stormy stretch comes after a storm system swept through the area, bringing heavy downpours overnight Friday into Saturday, followed by high winds that caused thousands of power outages. Severe Weather Possible: Scattered Storms With Locally Heavy Rain Possible
The second day of October will be marked by warmer temperatures and a chance of scattered thunderstorms with locally heavy rain possible. Tuesday's high temperature will be in the mid-70s. The storm chance will start after 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon and continue through the evening. Some of the storms could be severe and produce minor urban flooding. A week marked by consecutive days of rain accompanied at times by severe storms with lightning and gusty winds has carried over into the weekend. A swath of moderate to heavy rain continues to move into interior southeast New York and western Connecticut on Saturday morning. It will push east and northeast through the remainder of the morning. Get set for a new round of severe storms. Late afternoon thunderstorms will once again bring downpours, lightning, gusty winds and possible flooding to the area. The line of storms is moving from west to east with torrential rainfall that may cause localized flooding. (See satellite image above.) A beloved Northern Westchester art teacher has been identified as one of the two Fairfield County residents killed during Tuesday's powerful storms that left a swath of destruction across the region. Lauren Svendsen, 41, died when a tree fell on her car in New Fairfield around 5 p.m., on Brush Hill Road. Two Killed In Fairfield County During Storm
Two Fairfield County residents were killed and several injured as a high-powered storm system ripped through the area downing trees and power lines. A 41-year-old New Fairfield woman was killed around 5 p.m. Tuesday on Brush Hill Road when a tree fell on her vehicle, pinning her inside, said Connecticut State Trooper Sgt. Eric Haglund. Haglund said the woman's 3-year-old daughter was also in the vehicle but was not injured.
