A police enforcement detail conducted over Super Bowl weekend in the Hudson Valley resulted in several drunk driving arrests, authorities announced. The enforcement detail was conducted in Putnam County by the Carmel Police Department and resulted in a total of four arrests on Saturday, Feb. 10, according to Carmel Police Lt. Michael Bodo. Putnam County Sheriff Robert Langley Jr. announced several arrests that have been made by the Department's Narcotics Enforcement Unit (NEU) in recent weeks. Three people received non-life-threatening injuries in a head-on crash on Route 6 in Somers that shut down traffic for almost two hours. The crash, which included a car, an SUV, and a box truck, happened shortly before 7 a.m. Friday near the Northern Westchester/Putnam border. With local and state police agencies cracking down on drunk, drugged and distracted driving, several local residents were among nearly two dozen in the area who found themselves on the wrong side of the law over the weekend. Luckily no dogs, or humans, were hurt when a car slammed into the front of Pawsitively Petastic on Route 6 in Mahopac. The crash happened around 10 a.m. Wednesday when a person who had just dropped off their pet at the popular dog hotel and daycare drove into the front of the building at 395 Route 6, said the owner, Lia Herlihy. The Putnam County Sheriff’s Department has been busy of late, busting a pair of motorists who were allegedly operating their vehicles under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Putnam County Sheriff Robert Langley, Jr. announced the arrests of 40-year-old Danbury resident Karla Gomes and 33-year-old Shrub Oak resident Peter Cancro, who were busted for driving under the influence by the department in the past week.
