Cold Case: Danbury Police Bust Man In 35-Year-Old Rape, Kidnapping Spree Case A 53-year-old man arrested this week that could be the key to solving a series of kidnappings and rapes that happened in a small Fairfield County town in 1989, authorities announced.  David V. Coffey was arrested and charged in connection to the abduction and rape of a woman in Danbury, authorities said. Convicted Rapist Who Lived In CT Failed To Register As Sex Offender, Feds Say A convicted rapist who was illegally living in Connecticut waived his right to be indicted and pleaded guilty in Fairfield County for failing to register as a sex offender. Lester B. Joy, 40, formerly of Waterbury, pleaded guilty on Tuesday, Nov. 3, to failing to register as a sex offender, said John H. Durham, U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut. According to court documents and statements made in court, in October 2002, Joy was convicted in the State of New Jersey of sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and theft.   For those offenses, he was sentenced …

Rape Case Under Investigation In Greenwich Police are investigating a reported case of rape that allegedly took place in Fairfield County. Greenwich Police said the assault was reported on Tuesday, March 10. "We are in the early stages and are investigating the case," said Greenwich Police Lt. Mark Zuccerella.  No arrests have been made and police do not believe there is a danger to the public, said Zuccerella.  The lieutenant said due to the sensitive nature of the crime and privacy issues they would not be releasing additional information unless there is an arrest.

Murders, Rapes Spike In NYC Despite Lower Overall Crime Rate The NYPD has seen a spike in rapes and murders, though overall, crime in New York City is down from this time a year ago. Officials in Manhattan have touted the fact that overall, there is a lower crime rate, however, rapes and murders are on the rise through early March, according to the NYPD’s CompState report. The report found that in 2019, there have been 53 murders, up 29.3 percent from last year, when there were 41 in the same timeframe. 39-Year-Old Charged In Rape Of Minor In Northern Westchester A report by a minor in Northern Westchester that a classmate was sexually abused by a neighbor led to the arrest of a 39-year-old man, Bedford Police said. An investigation led by the Bedford Police Department's Detective and Patrol divisions, in conjunction with the Westchester County District Attorney's Office, led to the arrest of Julio Cortez of Bedford Hills on Monday, Oct. 8. Cortez has been charged with one count of second-degree rape. He was arraigned in Bedford Justice Court and remanded to Westchester County Jail and is scheduled to return to court on Oct. 22.
