Man Rescued After Falling Through Ice In Fairfield In a dramatic rescue, a man was saved by three Good Samatarians after falling through the ice of a Fairfield County lake while attempting to save his dog. The incident began in the Town of Fairfield around 4 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 22, when the Fairfield Emergency Communications Center received a call reporting a 24-year-old man had fallen through the ice at Lake Mohegan, said Fairfield Fire Department Asst. Unresponsive Swimmer Dies After Being Pulled From Lake In Fairfield A 33-year-old area man drowned while swimming with other family members in Lake Mohegan in Fairfield. Geovanny Tapia-Zuniga, of Bridgeport, was discovered drowned around 7:22 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 18, by members of the Fairfield Police Dive Team and the Fairfield Fire Department from Lake Mohegan, at 880 Morehouse Highway, in Fairfield, said Fairfield Police Lt. Robert Kalamaras. These Area Beaches, Pools Are Closed After Tuesday's Torrential Downpours Fairfield County residents will need to find a different way to enjoy the sun as several beaches and pools will remain closed on Wednesday following the thunderstorms that rocked the region this week. In Stratford, all beaches will be closed for swimming until Friday after the area received more than two inches of rain within 24 hours. The closures come as part of the Stratford Water Pollution Control Authority rules. All swimming areas in Fairfield will be closed, including the Lake Mohegan swimming area, until Thursday. All beaches in Stamford and Greenwich are also closed.
