19: New Study Finds Significant Virus Spread Among Deer Population
A new study has found widespread COVID-19 infections among deer populations in Iowa. Researchers from the Penn State University found that more than 80 percent of white-tailed deer sampled in parts of Iowa between December of 2020 and January of 2021 tested positive for COVID-19, according to an announcement from the university on Wednesday, Nov. 3. “We found that 80 percent of the sampled deer in December were positive for SARS-CoV-2, which proportionally represents about a 50-fold greater burden of positivity than what was reported at the peak of infection in humans at the time,” said Sur…

Former All-County HS Football, Basketball Standout From Danbury Dies
George Taranto, a Connecticut resident and former high school sports standout in Westchester County, has died at the age of 77. According to his obituary, Taranto, of Danbury, was a graduate of Ardsley High School and was all-county in football and basketball. He served in the United States Navy from 1963 to 1965. Taranto worked as a buyer for Bayer Aspirin in Tarrytown for more than 35 years. He also loved to hunt, fish and golf. The Bucks Stop Here: Photo Shows Five Of Them Together In North Salem
A rare congregation of bucks was spotted during the recent heatwave. Five bucks were spotted roaming the grounds of the Baxter Preserve in North Salem, taking in the sights before taking off. Baxter South land was donated to the North Salem Open Land Foundation (NSOLF) in 1979 by "The Baxter Road Group.” Baxter South includes a large pond surrounded by the remains of a racetrack, and many trails, which are traveled by people on foot and horseback.
