How Wet Will It Get? Flash Flood Watch In Effect As Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms, Showers Arrive
It's going to be a weekend washout. A stationary front of low pressure that will stay off the coast of New Jersey both Saturday and Sunday will result in new rounds of heavy rain, thunderstorms and showers. A Flash Flood Watch which went into effect at midnight Saturday will last until 8 a.m. Sunday. Numerous showers and storms will develop over the area Saturday morning and continue through the evening. Wet Mess: Will The Weekend Be A Washout?
A week marked by consecutive days of rain accompanied at times by severe storms with lightning and gusty winds has carried over into the weekend. A swath of moderate to heavy rain continues to move into interior southeast New York and western Connecticut on Saturday morning. It will push east and northeast through the remainder of the morning. New rainfall amounts between a half and three-quarters of an inch are possible. Line Of Severe Thunderstorms Headed To Area
Get set for a new round of severe storms. Late afternoon thunderstorms will once again bring downpours, lightning, gusty winds and possible flooding to the area. The line of storms is moving from west to east with torrential rainfall that may cause localized flooding. (See satellite image above.) Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm, according to the National Weather Service. Wind gusts up to 50 mph are possible with these storms. Storms Will Bring Torrential Downpours, Dangerous Winds To Area
We will finally see some relief from the heat after a steamy stretch of days. But not before a cold front will bring showers and thunderstorms to the area on Tuesday afternoon and evening. Expect heavy rain and gusty winds to move through from west to east, starting in the early afternoon. Storms will be capable of producing very heavy downpours which could lead some flooding in urban areas, especially low lying and poor drainage locations.
