The New York State Department of Transportation issued an alert cautioning that beginning on Monday, Sept. 17, there wlll be ramp closures on the interstate in Putnam and Dutchess counties, as crews perform construction activities in the area. There was gridlock on both I-684 and I-84 during the Friday evening commute after crashes led to the closures of one lane. The I-684 northbound crash involved a car and motorcycle and initially blocked the left lane at 4:30 p.m. between I-84 (Exit 9) and Hardscrabble Road (Exit 8) in North Salem. The lane has reopened. The I-84 crash, reported at around 5 p.m., blocked the westbound left lane at Route 9 (Exit 13) in Fishkill, with stop-and-go delays to Lime Kiln Road (Exit 15).
