Areas shown in light green are "leaning above average" in terms of snowfall. NOAA predicts temperatures should also lean above average. (See the second image above.) Old Farmer's Almanac Releases Outlook For Winter In Northeast
A brand-new forecast for the winter of 2022-23 is calling for a cold, snowy winter. It's in the 231st edition of the Old Farmer's Almanac, which says it has an 80-percent accuracy rate with its weather forecasts. “Depending on where you live, this will be the best of winters or memorable for all the wrong reasons,” said Janice Stillman, editor of The Old Farmer’s Almanac. “One half of the country will deal with bone-chilling cold and loads of snow, while the other half may feel like winter never really arrives.” Most of the Northeast will see a “cold, snowy” winter, according to the almana…

Farmers' Almanac Predicts Frigid, Stormy Winter For Northeast
The Farmers' Almanac has just released its predictions for the Northeast's winter weather and put short: get your shovels ready. Expect the cold to start earlier than usual. While most of the region is suffering under the sweltering summer sun, fall is just about the corner, and it will pack an early punch, the annual almanac claims. It will start with a Nor'easter that the Farmers' Almanac predicts will hit the Northeast in early October and bring with it buckets of rain. The cold air it brings with it won't leave the area any time soon. The bitter cold will reach the area by …

Winter Weather Outlook For Region Released By Farmers Almanacs
Want an early read on the weather outlook for the winter of 2020-21? There already are two forecasts by a pair of publications with long histories, and they're not exactly in agreement. "If you love the cold of winter, you’re going to love our forecast if you live in the northern half of the country," the Farmers' Almanac said. The Farmers’ Almanac says a major blizzard the second week of February will be among several big storms in our area. “This storm may bring up to 1-2 feet of snow to cities from Washington, D.C. to Boston,” the Farmers' Almanac writes. You can read the Farmers…

Get Ready For A Wetter, More Unpredictable Winter, NOAA Says In Long-Range Forecast
The winter of 2019-20 should bring more precipitation than normal, while the absence of either El Niño or La Niña will result in greater unpredictability. That's the long-range forecast by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) released on Thursday, Oct. 17, and covering December 2019 through February 2020. While the El Niño climate pattern often influences the winter, neutral conditions are in place for this winter and expected to persist into the spring. “Without either El Niño or La Niña conditions, short-term climate patterns like the Arctic Oscillation wi…

Three Long-Range Forecasts Call For Stormy Winter: Here's When First Snowfall Is Most Likely

For most of the region, it's between Nov. 1 and Nov. 30. (See the map above.) The earliest accumulating snowfall recorded in New York City happened on Oct. 21, 1952. Now, to those long-range forecasts: The Old Farmer's Almanac predicts a "wet and wild" 2019-20 winter in the Northeast marked by "shivers, snowflakes ... and strong storms" with the "snow-verload" affecting mainl…

Expect Snowy, Stormy Winter, AccuWeather Says
A new long-range forecast is calling for a snowy and stormy winter in the area. Despite a few cold spells across the Northeast during autumn, winter's chill won't arrive until at least the end of 2019, AccuWeather.com says. "I think you're going to see a touch of winter come in in December," AccuWeather Expert Long-Range Forecaster Paul Pastelok said. "But I think its full force will hold out until after the new year." Once the wintry weather gets underway, an active season will be in store, AccuWeather.com says. "Whether or not it's snowstorms, ice storms or mixed events, I do …

The Old Farmer's Almanac predicts a "wet and wild" 2019-20 winter in the Northeast. The Farmers' Almanac says this region will see "a good amount of snow." The asteroid is categorized as 1999 KW4 and consists of a primary space rock just under a mile wide. The asteroid also has a .3-mile-wide “companion” asteroid, which experts are calling an “asteroid moon” in orbit. The 1999 KW4 completes an orbit around the Sun once every 6.18 months (188 days). Though the asteroid will undoubtedly be difficult to spot, there are some amateur astronomers who will take initiative and attemp…

National Weather Service's Winter Outlook Cites El Niño Factor: Here's What It Means For Us
We've heard from two farmers almanacs and AccuWeather. When it comes to predictions for the upcoming winter, the National Weather Service is now batting cleanup. The weather service is in agreement with projections by AccuWeather and the Old Farmer's Almanac that the Northeast is likely to see a mild winter with the now likely emergence of El Niño. El Niño is a large-scale ocean-atmosphere climate interaction linked to a periodic warming in sea surface temperatures across the central and east-central Equatorial Pacific. What does that mean for us? “We expect El Nino to be in place in lat…

In a nutshell, we will see warmer than average temperatures through the end of the calendar year and near normal snowfall for the entire winter, according to a new outlook for the winter released by AccuWeather. (See first image above.) There is one caveat. Colder weather will arrive in J…

Will Winter Weather Be Dire Or Mild? Depends On Which Of These Two Forecasts You Believe
Want an early read on how harsh the winter of 2018-19 will be? There are already two long-range forecasts out, but they are hardly in agreement. To say the least. One was released by the Farmers' Almanac, the other by the more well-known Old Farmer's Almanac. The Farmers' Almanac, which says it bases its prediction on a "mathematical and astronomical formula," is calling for a "cold & white" winter in the Northeast with above-average snowfall. (See image above.) The winter outlook by the Old Farmer's Almanac, in existence since 1792, calls for "warm, wet"…
