Major Brush Fire In NY Spreads Smoke Into Fairfield County A major brush fire over at least a dozen acres in the Hudson Valley produced smoke that spread across the New York border into Connecticut. The blaze broke out at around 12:05 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 in Putnam County in the area of Route 301 and East Boyds Road in the town of Kent and was finally contained late in the day on Sunday, Oct. 27. Westport Bans All Outdoor Burning, Including Fire Pits Even with the cool nights, Westport residents can forget about starting that fire pit now that all outside burning has been banned in the town. Westport Fire Marshal Terrence Dunn instituted the ban on Tuesday, May 16, on all outside burning until further notice due to extremely dry conditions.  He also pointed to the Red Flag warning issued by the National Weather Service for all of Fairfield County and a large part of the state.  Dunn said, “This ban includes all recreational campfires and fire pits."
