Covid-19: CDC Releases New Guidance On Spread Of Virus On Surfaces The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) has released updated guidance on the spread of COVID-19 on surfaces. "People can be affected with the virus that causes COVID-19 with contact with contaminated surfaces and objects," CDC Director Rochelle Walensky. "However, evidence has demonstrated the risk by this route of transmission is actually low." Cleaning with a household cleaner that contains soap or detergent reduces the amount of germs on surfaces and decreases risk of infection from surfaces, Walensky said. Covid-19: Virus May Linger In Closed, Crowded Spaces Longer Than Thought, New Study Finds A new study found that the genetic material from novel coronavirus (COVID-19) may linger in the air longer than initially thought in some settings, reigniting fears of the spread of the virus as states slowly begin the process of reopening. In a study from researchers in Wuhan, China, that was published this week in the journal Nature Research, they found that the virus may survive longer in the air or in rooms that lack ventilation and may attract crowds. The team detected elevated levels of viral ribonucleic acid (RNA) in locations such as a small bathroom used by patients, and staff cha…

Covid-19: Trains, NYC Subways To Be Shut Down Nightly For Disinfections The Metropolitan Transit Authority is taking drastic measures to help clean up the public transit system for essential workers during the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. During his daily COVID-19 briefing, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and MTA officials announced that Metro-North, LIRR, and New York City subway trains and stations would be disinfected every 24 hours to curb the spread of the virus. To achieve that, Cuomo said that the subways would be shut down every morning from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. when ridership is at its lowest, noting that ridership is down 92 percent across the board …
