The incident took place in Litchfield County around 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 30 at Stillwater Pond State Park in Torrington, according to Paul Copleman, spokesman for the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. According to Copleman, the man is 35 years old. "There is no threat to the public," he said. "We are grateful for the assistance of the Torrington Police Department." Seen One? List Of Black Bear Sightings In Fairfield County, State Released Once a rare sight, the black bear is making a comeback in Fairfield County -- and statewide. The Connecticut State Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) reported that a total of 7,493 black bear sightings have been reported in Connecticut in the past year, from Aug. 10, 2017 to Aug. 5 of this year, including hundreds in Fairfield County.
