The New Haven Police Department announced the death of Officer Michael Hinton, on Sunday, Oct. 16. "Officer Hinton was a dedicated husband, father of two, and friend of many. He joined the Police Department in 2014. Officer Hinton inspired us all with his unwavering positive spirit and selfless dedication to his work and family. Major Companies Say They'll Cover Employee Travel Expenses For Abortions
Several major media companies will cover travel costs for employees seeking abortions in response to the Supreme Court overturning Roe vs. Wade, Variety reports. This comes after the court ruled 6-3 to overturn people's constitutional right to the procedure on the morning of Friday, June 24. Companies including Disney, Netflix, Paramount, Comcast, Sony and Meta confirmed to Variety that they will be reimbursing their employees who travel across state lines to get an abortion. Comcast’s highly-criticized move to implement internet data caps is being delayed. On Friday, Feb. 18, Connecticut Attorney General William Tong issued a statement welcoming Comcast’s announcement that they will postpone, what he called an “ill-timed” data cap until 2022. Sporadic 911 Outages Reported Throughout State, CT State Police Say
Some Connecticut State Police troops temporarily lost touch with their communities after experiencing sporadic 911 outages this week. On Monday, Jan. 27, State Police issued an alert that they were having 911 problems throughout the state, mostly among Comcast customers. Residents who couldn’t get through to 911 were forced to call the non-emergency line for the troop they reside in. There may be a new batch of “cord cutters” coming around as three cable TV services announced their intention to increase costs for consumers. According to Consumer Reports, Comcast, AT&T, and Spectrum all have plans to hike prices for cable TV subscribers for 2020. Connecticut Man Pleads Guilty To Tax Evasion
Ira Malkin, 48, of Hamden, waived his right to be indicted and pleaded guilty on Wednesday, Feb. 28 before Chief U.S. District Judge Janet C. Hall in New Haven to one count of tax evasion. According to court documents and statements made in court, Malkin worked as a principal salesman for Good Copy Printing Center Inc. (GCP), a printing company located in New Haven. Malkin earned substantial commissions from GCP based on sales made to customers. Between approximately 2003 and 2012, GCP paid many of Malkin’s personal expenses.
