Huskies Show Him The Money: Hurley Signs New $50M Deal With UConn
Head coach Dan Hurley of the two-time national champion University of Connecticut men's basketball team has hit the jackpot by signing a new $50 million, six-year contract with the program. The school announced the deal on Monday, July 8, saying Hurley was the best college basketball coach in the nation. Under the new contract, Hurley will receive a base salary of $400,000 yearly and additional compensation for speaking, consulting, and media obligations of $6.375 million this year. 30-Year-Old CT Resident Remembered As Dedicated Coach, Loving Husband
A late former Connecticut resident is being remembered as a dedicated basketball coach and a loving husband. Michael Freilich died in his sleep from natural causes on Friday, Dec. 17, according to his obituary. He was 30 years old. Born in Kentucky in 1991, Freilich was raised in West Hartford and was well-known on the basketball courts around town. His passion for the sport was obvious, and he was a force to be reckoned with at Morley and the JCC, those who knew him said. A veteran football coach from the Hudson Valley who graduated high school in Fairfield County is set to showcase his skills under the bright lights in Las Vegas. Keith MacBain died at his home in Southampton on Sunday, Sept. 13 due to complications from Parkinson’s Disease. Keith was born in Englewood, NJ, and lived on a small farm in Closter, NJ, where his father ran a kennel. He later attended Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts and graduated in 1956. He received a B.A. in English from Cornell University in 1960 and an M.A. from Columbia Teachers College in 1964. William F. Mignault, a legendary high school football coach in Connecticut, has died at the age of 90. The Connecticut High School Hall of Famer, who started the football program at Ledyard High School and served as its coach for more than four decades, died on Tuesday, Oct. 1, the school announced. Longtime women’s college basketball coach Cathy Inglese, who was hired by Hofstra as associate head coach earlier this summer, died after suffering a traumatic brain injury in a fall. The 60-year-old, who was head coach at Boston College from 1993 through 2008 - making the NCAA Sweet 16 three times - was hired by Hofstra in June.
