Wet, Windy Mess: Storms Packed With Drenching Rain, Gusty Winds Sweeping Through Region
Separate storms accompanied by heavy rain and strong wind gusts will make the final weekend of April a wet mess. According to the National Weather Service, the heaviest rain from the first round of storms should wrap up by around midday Saturday, April 29 after dumping about an inch of precipitation to most of the region. Rain will be lighter in the afternoon with some breaks in the precipitation. It will be raw throughout the day with a high temperature of around 50 degrees. Sunday morning, April 30 will start off dry before the next storm system arrives in the early afternoon. (Click on …

Here's Time Frame For System Bringing Strong To Severe Thunderstorms
A system packed with scattered, potentially potent thunderstorms is headed for the region. The storm chance will start late in the morning on Friday, Aug. 26, before showers and storms are expected during the afternoon into the evening, the National Weather Service said. Some of the storms "may trigger isolated to scattered strong to severe thunderstorms and locally heavy rainfall," the weather service said. Gusty winds are expected to accompany any strong to severe storms. "The thunderstorms will break out across portions of the Northeast on Friday afternoon as a front dividing warm and…

Unsettled Stretch Will Bring Separate Storm Chances, Much-Needed Relief From Drought Conditions
As brown lawns abound, there is relief on the way from the drought conditions that have been escalating throughout the Northeast. Separate storm chances are expected to start a more unsettled stretch of weather that could bring more frequent precipitation. There could be some precipitation at times on both Saturday, July 16 and Sunday, July 17, according to the National Weather Service. Saturday will be mostly cloudy with a high temperature in the low 80s with scattered showers at times and the chance for pop-up thunderstorms, especially in the evening. It will be a bit brighte…

System Bringing Showers, Storms, Snow In Some Spots Will Be Followed By Temperature Plunge
A new storm system bringing showers and thunderstorms to the region, and some snow to areas farthest north and inland, will be followed by a big change in the weather pattern for the second half of the weekend and start of the new workweek. "While this may not be the final blast of winter-like cold for the Northeast, it will certainly pack some punch," said AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Brett Anderson. Expect spotty showers and thunderstorms at times on Saturday, March 26, but the day will not be a complete washout at all. The high temperature will be around 50 degrees, according to the …

Winter's Revenge: Arctic Blast Will Bring Chance For Snow In Parts Of Northeast
A blast of Arctic air from Canada will move into the Northeast this weekend, leading to a plunge in temperatures and snow showers in parts of the region. Call it winter's revenge on the first full weekend of spring, which sprung this past Sunday, March 20. "While this may not be the final blast of winter-like cold for the Northeast, it will certainly pack some punch," said AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Brett Anderson. Following the departure of a strong storm system that has now pushed off the East Coast, skies will gradually clear during the day Friday, March 25, which will be brisk an…

Storm Scenarios: Final Track Will Determine Potential For Super Sunday Nor'easter
Two major blockbuster Nor'easters in the span of a week? It could happen. Another potentially major storm is taking aim on the region, this one on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 7 into Monday, Feb. 8. American models now predict the storm track will be farther north and inland than the Nor'easter earlier this week. (See image 1 above.) European forecast models have the storm following a similar track to this week's Nor'easter. (See image 2 above.) "One particularly important piece will be a weak storm moving through the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes ahead of the big storm," AccuWe…

Arctic Blast, New Storm Could Be Coming After Stretch Of Dry Days, Meteorologists Say
A stretch of dry days with temperatures a bit above normal are expected at least through this weekend. But soon after that, we could see an Arctic blast that may lead to a big winter storm. "Enjoy the 'warmth' while it lasts, because Old Man Winter is looking to return with a vengeance," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Brett Anderson said. AccuWeather Senior and Lead Long-Range Meteorologist Paul Pastelok, meanwhile, noted that "Many of the chips are beginning to line up to suggest we will see a shift of the polar vortex and an Arctic invasion across the central and eastern US and Canada…

Potential Blockbuster Snowstorm On Track For Northeast
Hoping for a White Christmas? A potential blockbuster storm system on track to sweep through the Northeast next week could lead to just that. It's far from a sure thing right now, but forecasters are recognizing some early signals that a storm could come together and tap enough cold air to produce snow during the middle of next week, AccuWeather said. The current models have the time frame for the storm being Wednesday, Dec. 16 into Thursday, Dec. 17. (See image above.) "At this early stage, we are just providing a heads-up on a potential storm that could have a major negative impact on t…
