In a race last Friday in Lake Placid, N.Y., Mazdzer earned his first-ever win in a luge world cup two-heat race, with West right behind him in second place.
It marked the first time that two U.S. men have gone one-two on the podium in a luge world cup race.
West, 20, was a member of the 2014 Olympic team in Sochi. Mazdzer is a two-time Olympian. Both train in Lake Placid. Mazdzer, 27, now has the overall world cup luge lead.
Mazdzer’s two-run time was 1:42.808, with West in 1:42.841. ustria’s Wolfgang Kindl was third in 1:42.848.
This is the second year in a row that a U.S. man won the Lake Placid World Cup. West won last year and set the track record.
