Ridgefield's Tucker West Begins Olympic Journey With First Luge Run

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- After the first of four runs in the men's luge, Ridgefield's Tucker West stands in 21st place at the Sochi Olympics, less than 1 second out of first place on Saturday morning.

Albert Demchenko of Russia is in first place at 52.170 seconds. 

American Christopher Mazdzer is in 10th at 52.744 seconds, 0.574 seconds out of first. West, 18, is in 21st at 53.142 seconds, 0.972 seconds out of first. Aidan Kelly of the USA is in 26th at 53.275 secons, 1.105 seconds out of first. 

A total of 39 male lugers are competing in the event. 

The second heat will be held later Saturday morning. Heats 3 and 4 will be held Sunday morning to decide the gold, silver and bronze medalists.
