The club was founded to provide an expanded track and field program at East Ridge and Scotts Ridge middle schools.

Ridgefield High School girls track and cross country coach John Goetz started the club to help introduce middle school-aged runners to the sport and to give them an opportunity to compete against other middle school teams in the area.

Any sixth- through eighth-grader living in Ridgefield can participate. Participants will compete for the middle school that they attend.

Home-schooled children and children who attend private school also are eligible to participate. They will compete for the middle school they would attend if they attended Ridgefield public schools.

Runners will participate in six meets over the season from April through June, culminating in the Western Connecticut Conference championships at Ridgefield High School on June 5.

Practices will take place three days a week after school for 90 minutes at the student's middle school they attend. A fourth, optional Saturday session will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Ridgefield High track. That session will give athletes an opportunity to practice high jump, long jump, hurdles, shot put and discus.

A $100 registration fee is required to join the team.
