The Tigers dominated Danbury on Wednesday night, 42-6, as Sam Gravitte rushed for 121 yards and three touchdowns. Ridgefield (8-2) finishes the season 8-2 and needs Fairfield Prep to upset West Haven on Thursday to earn a berth in the Class LL tournament.
“A couple of us will be going to the game and get a little cheering section together for Fairfield Prep,’’ Gravitte said. “Now it’s out of our hands. We did what we could. Now it’s up to mix. We have to find a little red to mix in with our black to show our support for Prep.”
Ridgefield put the Hatters away early, building a 21-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. Gravitte’s 26-yard run opened the scoring, and quarterback Connor Rowe threw a 16-yard pass to Andrew Chuma to go up 14-0 with 3:50 left in the quarter. Gravitte’s 41-yard run came two plays after an interception by Christopher Mirra with 26 seconds left in the quarter.
“We wanted to get on them early like we did and stick to our game plan,’’ said Gravitte, who extended his school record for most points in a career. He entered the season with 163 career points and surpassed that in one season with last night’s performance. He has 182 for the season, making it 342 points for his career.
Rowe also had a big game for the Tigers, scoring on a 14-yard run in the second quarter and a 18-yard run in the third quarter. Rowe had 87 yards rushing and threw for another 118. It was a dominating performance by the Tigers, whose only losses were to unbeaten Greenwich and a stunning 22-14 loss to Brien McMahon on Oct. 26.
“We’re trying not to look back,’’ Gravitte said. “There’s nothing we can do about that now. We came out here to do what we needed to do. Now we have to wait and see what happens.”
