Ridgefield (7-2 overall, 5-2 in the conference) may have lost more than the game. Leading scorer Kurt Steidl appeared to suffer a sprained ankle with about a minute remaining. He left the game and did not return.
“I hope he’s going to be OK,’’ coach Carl Charles said.
Steidl led Ridgefield with 18 points. Jeff Racy scored 15, including 11 in the first quarter. Patrick Racy added 12. Jonathan Hicks had two as just four players scored for the Tigers.
“We had a poor shooting night, we turned it over, and we had some defensive mistakes that were uncharacteristic,’’ Charles said.
The game was tied at 39 after two free throws by Steidl with 7:33 remaining. But Norwalk went on a 12-4 run to take control for good. The Bears iced the game by scoring the last eight points. Roy Kane and Jabari Dear had 16 apiece for Norwalk. Saeed Soulemane added 12 for the Bears.
Ridgefield trailed 25-22 at halftime, but took a brief 28-25 lead with 5:55 left in the third quarter. Ridgefield’s last lead was 36-35 after a basket by Patrick Racy late in the third quarter.
Ridgefield hosts Masuk in a non-league game on Wednesday, and travels to meet Bassick in Bridgeport next Friday.
