Fifty Coins Restaurant Wins Ridgefield Women's Softball Title

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- In a game that saw four lead changes, Fifty Coins Restaurant came away victorious in the 2013 Ridgefield Women's Softball League championship, nipping Westford Capital, 9-8.

Fifty Coins erased a 7-5 deficit with a four-run bottom of the sixth to secure the title.

Kat Begetis roped the game-tying two-run double in the sixth, scoring Dawn Grabover and Ruth Masso. Angela Spanakos put Fifty Coins up for good with an RBI single.

In a dramatic top of the seventh, two Westford runners were thrown out on the base paths, leading to two crucial outs. Fifty Coins pitcher Barbara Fischetti then got Caroline Meade to pop out to short for the final out, clinching the championship.

Paula Santos opened the game's scoring with an RBI triple in the first inning. Michelle Cordoza then followed with a double to score Santos.

Westford rallied with a four-run top of the third, but was quickly answered with a three-run rally by Fifty Coins in the bottom of the inning.

Big hits by Westford's Kristy Swanson, Courtney Meade and Regan Martin put visiting Westford Capital briefly back on top before Fifty Coins' final rally.

Joanne Boniello was named the playoffs' Most Valuable Player.

Fifty Coins defeated Georgetown Auto 23-18 in the first round of the playoffs and then went on to hand a loss to Westford Capital 3-0 to put them in the losers’ bracket. Westford defeated Planet Pizza twice to return to the finals.
