Both the House of Representatives and the state Senate unanimously passed Frey’s bill, according to a press release.
Ridgefield High School student Natalie Whitton, who has dwarfism, asked Frey last year why Connecticut was not recognizing Dwarfism Awareness Month, according to Frey.
Eighteen states, plus Puerto Rico, have officially established October as Dwarfism Awareness Month.
“In declaring Dwarfism Awareness Month, the hope is to raise awareness around dwarfism, address common misconceptions, and increase opportunities for people with dwarfism around the state," Frey said. "We're talking about regular people who have jobs, families and responsibilities. We want to increase awareness about dwarfism, so that they can live even fuller lives in our state.”
States that have already passed similar measures include New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and California.
