Marconi Starting Seventh Term As First Selectman In Ridgefield

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. — Rudy Marconi is about to begin his seventh term as first selectman in Ridgefield after again facing no opponents in the fall election, according to the News-Times website.

Despite his longevity in office, Marconi got off to a shaky political start, the story said.

A Democrat, Marconi first ran for the Planning and Zoning Commission in 1989 and gained a seat only through minority representation rules that required a member of the minority party on the board.

He lost his first bid for first selectman in 1997 but won the town's top seat for the first time 1999, the News-Times said.

He also won an uncontested election in 2001, then defeated GOP challengers in 2003, 2005 and 2007, when Ridgefield switched from two-year to four-year terms.
