The incidents, which have all taken place in the past few days, have occurred on numerous Ridgefield streets, police said. Nearly all the incidents have one thing in common: car doors were left unlocked, police said in a statement.
The first investigation began Saturday morning on Danbury Road, according to police, who said that five cars had been entered overnight. All of the vehicle owners reported their belongings had been rummaged through. Several reports items were missing, according to police.
On Saturday evening, police received a report of a car stolen from the Branchville Train Station, according to authorities. Investigators found that a Chevy Suburban had been left unlocked with the keys inside when it was taken some time before 11 p.m., said police. The vehicle was recovered the following day.
Monday brought a host of new reports, according to authorities.
On Monday morning, more than a dozen people reported that their vehicles had been entered overnight, police said. Those streets targeted by the thefts include Old Stagecoach Road, Bob Hill Road, Todds Road, Aspen Ledges Driver, Great Hill Road, Douglas Lane, Mountain Road and Lakeview Drive, police said, adding that all the vehicles involved had been left unlocked.
On Lakeview Drive, officers also were investigating the reported theft of a Saab 9-3, police said, adding that the car had been left in a driveway with the keys inside.
“We would like to remind everyone to lock your vehicles and remove all valuables,” police said in a statement detailing the numerous crimes.
