Hannah Schmidt, 19, of Hebron, was behind the wheel of the car when it collided with tractor-trailer on Route 66 about 10 miles from campus, killing her two passengers, the Courant said.
Ryan Meegan, who was a sophomore pre-teaching major from Ridgefield, and Alana Ferrante, 19, of South Windsor, a pre-kinesiology major, died in the Sept. 18 crash. Schmidt was seriously injured, the Courant said.
Meegan played club soccer and rugby at UConn and was a midfielder for the Ridgefield High soccer team that won the Class LL state championship in 2013. He also was a mentor in UConn’s First Year Experience Program.
Schmidt, who was also charged with a stop sign violation, was released on a $1,000 bond and scheduled to appear in court on April 27, the Courant said.
