The Ridgefield Police Department issued an alert this week noting that the local shelter, as well as animal shelters in surrounding towns, have seen several incidents of pets being left at the door, abandoned.
According to police, this is considered abandonment and is not legal.
“When an animal is left at the door of a shelter, there is no confirmation of valid rabies inoculations, as well as any other defects or diseases that the animal may potentially have,” officials noted. “This causes risk to employees, other animals, and anyone else that may come in contact with these abandoned animals.”
Anyone who can no longer care for their pets has been instructed to contact Ridgefield Animal Control by calling (203) 431-2711 and they will facilitate efforts to find someone capable of assisting with the surrendering of the animal.
