Whalen was born Nov. 25, 1940, in Tulsa, Okla., to Robert L. and Dorothy Bolch Triplett. She graduated from Will Rodgers High School in 1958 and was finance major at the University of Michigan. She was married to Martin P. Whalen for 32 years.
She moved her family to Ridgefield in 1972, where she became a top professional realtor in Ridgefield for more than 25 years. Whalen began her career at Mary Hagen Associates before joining Neumann Real Estate and then Fitzgerald and Hastings.
Most recently, Whalen worked as an associate at Coldwell Banker, where she earned many International President’s Elite awards, including the Number One Sales Associate award in Connecticut in 1992.
She was president of the Board of Realtors in Ridgefield from 1980 to 1989. She remained a member of the National Association of Realtors and Connecticut Association of Realtors throughout her career.
In addition to her husband, Whalen is survived by two sons, Alan E. (Beverly) Smart, of Leesburg, Va., and Robert L. Smart, of Mexico; a daughter, Pamela (Steven Chimblo) Smart, of Greenwich; a brother, Robert L. (Sabrina) Triplett Jr., of Tulsa; two grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Kane Funeral Home in Ridgefield. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Church in Ridgefield. Committal will follow at the family mausoleum at St. Mary Cemetery in Ridgefield.
