Joan Driscoll, 84, Of Ridgefield

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. – Joan Degnan Driscoll of Ridgefield died Sept. 15. She was 84. 

Born Aug. 9, 1928, in Forty Fort, Pa., she was the daughter of Leo and Nan Ryan Degnan. She grew up in Astoria, N.Y., and attended St. Jean the Baptist High School. Driscoll graduated from St. John's University and worked for the Department of Social Services in New York City. 

She married Francis X. Driscoll in 1953. They lived in Huntington Station, N.Y., for 32 years before moving to Wilton in 1986 and then to Ridgefield in 1998. Driscoll was a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Active in athletics, she was a former basketball player, coach and umpire. 

She also loved to sing and play guitar and enjoyed following and discussing current political events. 

Driscoll is survived by four sons, Francis X. (Pamela) Driscoll, of Milford, Robert P. (Cynthia) Driscoll, of Hingham, Mass., M. Leo (Nancy) Driscoll, of Garden City, N.Y., and Justin L. (Suzanne) Driscoll, of Westport; five daughters, Anne (Bruce) Danielson, of South Bend, Ind., Katherine (Peter) Jacullo, of Ridgefield, Celia (John) Fisher, of Raleigh, N.C., Mariclaire (James) Rourke, of Oakton, Va., and Megan (John) Kaste, of Campbell Hall, N.Y.; a son-in-law, Michael Driscoll-Kelly, of Avon; a brother, Robert (Theresa) Degnan, of Katonah, N.Y.; two sisters, Mary Degnan, of Tarrytown, N.Y., and Nancy (Eric) Waxman, of Setauket, N.Y.; and 33 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Driscoll was predeceased by a daughter, Joan Driscoll-Kelly. 

Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Kane Funeral Home in Ridgefield. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Church in Ridgefield.
