Officer Jorge Romero, a seven-year veteran of the force, was justified in shooting John Valluzzo, according to a report released Wednesday, July 9, to the NewsTimes.com by the state Division of Criminal Justice.
Ridgefield police responded to a report of a domestic dispute at Valluzzo's home at 423 Ridgebury Road at about 5 p.m. May 20, 2013. When officers arrived, Valluzzo, 75, approached them with a loaded handgun.
Valluzzo's girlfriend, Anna Messina of Danbury, is suing his estate, saying she feared for her life as he pressed a gun against her chest during the police standoff.
She is seeking more than $15,000 in compensation for battery, negligence, and emotional distress, the story said.
Valluzzo was founder and president of the Military Museum of Southern New England in Danbury.
