Flowers and a pink teddy bear have been placed on a tree stump near the scene of the accident in the northwest part of Ridgefield.
A moment of silence was observed Monday morning at Ridgefield High School, where Emma was a sophomore, the Ridgefield Press reported.
Principal Stacey Gross said counselors were meeting with students to help them cope with “this terrible, terrible event,” the Ridgefield Press said.
Emma was walking with a group of friends when she was struck by the car at about 9:30 p.m. on the road, which is filled with curves in an area that is residential but rural. She lived on Benson Road, which is a short distance from the memorial.
No charges have been filed in the case.
Emma was an outstanding student and participated in many school and extracurricular organizations, including Mock Trial, Student Government and Orchestra, according to the Kane Funeral Home website. She also took part in numerous volunteer and service activities.
She had danced since she was 3 years old and loved all dance styles, but she especially loved ballet. She was the Snow Queen in this year’s "Nutcracker" at the Ridgefield Playhouse.
Emma was a daughter of Jeet and Maury (Schear) Sandhu and the sister of Morgan Sandhu, who graduated from Ridgefield High School last year, according to the Kane Funeral Home website.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, at the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, in St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 520 Ridgebury Road, Ridgefield, with the Rev. Joseph A. Prince officiating. Burial will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Emma E. Sandhu Scholarship Fund, Ridgefield High School, 700 N. Salem Road, Ridgefield, CT 06877.
